For Sunday's match against Vasco at Maracanã, coach Joel Santana is expected to field a team made up of players considered reserves. One of the players expected to start the derby is defender Thiago Sales. With four goals this season, he has established himself as one of the brightest prospects in Flamengo's youth academy. For Sunday's match, he's asking for full attention to striker Edmundo.

- "I've never faced Edmundo. It goes without saying that he's a great player, because he's proven that everywhere he's played. We can't give him any space to play. The game I remember most about him was the one where he scored three goals and went out dancing to celebrate. As a fan, I was really angry at the time, but that's in the past, there's no point in wanting revenge now. My part is to do my best to ensure that this doesn't happen again."

Raised in the youth divisions, Thiago says he has always had a good record against Vasco, and believes he has taken advantage of the opportunities Joel has given him.

- "The rivalry between Flamengo and Vasco dates back to the youth academy. My record against them is good. I've taken advantage of the opportunities Joel has given me to gain experience and also the trust of the coach and the fans."
