Flamengo didn't qualify, but they won and played great football against Universidad de Chile this Thursday in Santiago. With great determination, the team defeated "La U" 2-1 in Santa Laura and only missed out on the competition due to the number of goals scored away from home. All the players left the field extolling the team's fighting spirit, and the fans themselves recognized that the team deserved the applause after the final whistle.
Proof of this is that the team left the stadium and arrived at their hotel in the Chilean capital with the support of approximately 100 fans who had come to watch the second leg of the Copa Santander Libertadores quarterfinals. Coach Rogério Lourenço praised the team's performance.
"We left the Libertadores with our heads held high. Despite being eliminated, we showed that we have a better team than theirs. This team deserves to be celebrated. We achieved a convincing victory, honoring Flamengo's traditions. We ended the last undefeated team in the Libertadores. Did they qualify? Congratulations! But things weren't as easy as they expected," he said.
The Gávea team lands this Friday at Rio de Janeiro International Airport at 18:40 pm (Brasília time), returns on Saturday and faces Grêmio Prudente on Sunday at Maracanã.
