Toninho Barroso laments "blackout at the end"
Interim coach shares responsibility for defeat with group and bets on a comeback in the championship
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inCampinas (SP) - Flamengo leaves Campinas early Sunday evening (August 29.08) with a very bad feeling in their luggage. After leading the match against Guarani 1-0 for most of the 90 minutes, the team ended up suffering a comeback in stoppage time in the second half and dropped three places in the Brasileirão table. Interim coach Toninho Barroso, who led the team in the match, lamented the result and the fact that the team didn't kill the game when they had the chances to do so.
\For Toninho, the team suffered a "blackout" late in the game, and as a result, they couldn't hold on to the result. Despite this, he believes the team is strong and capable of reacting later in the competition.
\"We played well, we had chances to score a second and even a third goal, but unfortunately, the old football maxim happened: if you don't score, you concede. In the end, there was a blackout, we failed to defend, and Guarani scored. But Flamengo has to keep moving forward; a competent coach is arriving. I share the loss with the group, but they will be able to turn things around in the championship," he said.
\The coach also took the opportunity to explain the substitutions he made during the game. According to him, none of them were tactical in nature. They were all for medical or physical reasons.
\"We don't have 100% of our players, and today I had to change the first player due to injury, Leo asked to leave the second player due to a cold, and then Val, due to fatigue. None of the changes were tactical. Rest, light training, and conversation will be essential. The preparation was long-term, but the club is still paying the price for some players arriving now," he added.
