Flamengo fans owe young Diego Maurício and midfielder Toró the joy of ending a seven-game winless streak in this year's Brazilian Championship. The two scored the goals in the Flamengo comeback against Prudente this Wednesday (15.09), in the interior of São Paulo, and left the field to much celebration from their teammates. The number five, who has been with Gávea since 2006, couldn't contain his joy after the final whistle.
"I've been dedicating myself for five years, watching this team bring joy to Flamengo fans and it was really bad to be in a situation like this," he said.
The midfielder hopes that the victory will help the team dispel some of the distrust, bring the fans back to the group's side and give the red-blacks morale for the rest of the competition.
"We hope to shake off this crisis. We needed a win. We faced a strong team. Prudente is a tough team, we play on a big field, but we won the first game and now we hope to end this drought," said the player, who praised the work of coach Silas.
"Thank God, with a lot of dedication and the work done by Silas, who is a competent coach, a professional who has helped us a lot, we achieved a victory of overcoming and now we have to continue like this. Sunday is a classic and we have to maintain this momentum," he concluded.
