Hard work is the new coach's main weapon
Silas says he is prepared for demands and promises a good relationship with Flamengo's athletes.

With his career on the rise over the past three years, Silas arrives at Flamengo to face the biggest challenge of his life as a football coach. Officially introduced last Monday (August 30.08), the new Flamengo coach is banking on hard work and a strong relationship with the players to achieve good results and says he's ready for whatever comes his way.
"It's a huge pleasure to be here. I've seen this group play and know them well. There's a big difference in the standings, but it's happened once and it could happen again. I came here to work. I told the players that I'm not committed to anyone. I can make mistakes in the formula, but not in the honesty. A coach has to be blind in one eye and deaf in one ear. He has to prepare to be world champion and to be under pressure. I'm fully prepared for whatever comes my way," he said.
The pressure from the red-and-black fans doesn't faze Silas. He knows that the results will tell whether his work is being done well or not, but he asks the fans to be patient and consistent when making their judgments.
"Of course, the results need to reflect the coach's work. I recently left Grêmio, and the image of my dismissal is very negative. The work takes a back seat. But those who are inside know that this isn't the truth. But I have no fear [of the fans]. I hope that the interpretation of the coach's work is correct. Consistency is essential," said the coach, who promised to be a friend to the players.
"You have to see eye to eye. I played with Kleberson, Pacheco was my player at Paraná... I'm friends with the player, as long as he doesn't confuse roles. These are the athletes we have, and they're the ones we're counting on. They're the ones we're going to support. Soon the ball will start going in," he concluded.
