It's with these numbers that coach Rogério Lourenço must assemble his team to face Palmeiras this Wednesday at Pacaembu Stadium. Despite this, he prefers not to complain. On the contrary, he values the strength of the squad and is betting on a positive result.
The coach spoke with the group for about 15 minutes before training this Tuesday, in Gávea, and conveyed to the players the importance of adding points not only in São Paulo, but also on Saturday, against Goiás.
"We talked about the importance of these two games to bring some stability to the table. We've planned for that. But we're struggling with injuries, cards, and players being called up, and it's obvious that I'm looking for the best lineup for the team. This way, those who have had fewer opportunities will have a chance now. And I see this as a positive: we're observing the other players better," said the coach, who will not be able to repeat a starting lineup for the sixth consecutive match.
With the World Cup break approaching, Rogério Lourenço knows there will have to be some kind of restructuring within the red-black squad and guarantees that he will only want to hire the best available on the market.
"All the names that have been mentioned were given to me. I don't want to go into details because I don't know how the talks are going, but every group needs good players and Flamengo needs them even more," he noted.
During the 30 days of the World Cup in South Africa, Flamengo will conduct a sort of preseason. The players will have a few days off at the beginning of the World Cup, but afterward, they will return and have enough time to work hard and return in the best possible condition.
"I haven't had a full week to work yet, and that will happen during the World Cup. I believe that, at a time like this, whoever prepares well during this period will grow and things will flow, but we have to think about these two games first. There are renewals, players in talks. A change in management—there are many things, but this has to stay off the field. Players just have to get on the field and do their job," he concluded.
