The lack of chemistry was clear, but so was the desire to win and the quality of Flamengo's team. It was in this vein that Flamengo manager Silas assessed the match against Santos on Sunday (September 05.09) at Maracanã. For him, the team showed what it's capable of, even without a victory, and proved that the future could be exciting for Flamengo.
"It was good. The team spirit on the field was excellent. For now, I'm stuck with this situation where players just joined the team and didn't gel. It's something that will come naturally. They really pushed each other and had opportunities," he said.
Coach Silas also explained the substitutions he made during the game and revealed that, despite the limited time to train, he has been working on some variations in the team's way of playing for the upcoming matches.
"I'm thinking about some situations I can do at Flamengo without any problems. The thing is, this Sunday two substitutions were certain: Renato and Deivid. And there was an emergency, which was the case of Willians (injured). It was something worrying. As the game went on, the team got tired, and Santos is very qualified," said the coach, who preferred not to lament the closing of the Maracanã.
"I always tell the athletes that we must change what we can, which is our behavior on the field, not harm the team by being sent off for a silly reason... We can't control these (off-field) issues. Especially because our situation doesn't allow us to keep looking for the reasons why Maracanã was closed," he added.
