The late afternoon of last Friday (20.08), in Gávea, served not only for coach Rogério Lourenço to work with the team in a collective training session, but also for him to explain his options when putting together the starting lineup that will face Atlético-PR, Sunday (22.08), at Maracanã. According to him, the starting position at Flamengo will be earned day by day.
"The question of being a starter has to be proven in each game," he explained.
The first question was at the back. With all the players available, who would form the defensive duo for the red-and-blacks? Rogério's answer was clear: Jean and Ronaldo Angelim.
"At the moment, I consider Jean and Ronald Angelim to be the starting defense. David had problems and ended up being affected by the transfer window. Welinton is also doing very well and we are well served in that position," he said.
In attack, Leandro Amaral and Val Baiano continue to have the full confidence of the coach, who believes that the arrivals of Diogo and Deivid will be beneficial both qualitatively and quantitatively for the squad.
"Leandro and Val are experienced. We knew we lacked numbers in attack. But I spoke with Val and conveyed to him the confidence I have in his football. That won't change," he added.
Renato in the frame – During the training session, Rogério tested a formation with Renato as the main creative force. Petkovic was dropped from the starting lineup, making way for Kleberson, who played as the third man while the number 11 moved forward. The coach explained that it was only a test, but he didn't rule out using this formation in certain game situations.
"We need to find a player who matches Pet's characteristics to make a system change during the match, and Renato is a player who performs well there. We need to be ready, and we know it's going to be a long stretch, 15 games in about 45 or 50 days, and we need to be prepared," he concluded.
