Coach wants Flamengo to finish more

Rogério Lourenço believes the team is creating fewer opportunities than it can

Coach Rogério Lourenço has identified a problem within Flamengo's squad and is already working to correct it. According to the Flamengo manager, his team is shooting poorly and falling back too early when they open up a lead. This has happened in Flamengo's three Brasileirão matches since the World Cup, and the manager doesn't want a repeat against Internacional next Sunday (July 25.07).

Rogério says he is working on this and believes that the main factor to be improved is maintaining possession of the ball.

"We have to find the reason why the team isn't finishing well. I've detected it and I'm working on it. It's a matter of the team staying together and moving forward because I don't push the team back. This happens when I lose the second ball," he explained.

Despite this, the coach praised the team's spirit and commitment in every match, giving the example of Petkovic, who according to him, has been leaving the field very tired.

"Every player has to be tired. With Pet, because of his age, the effort is greater and so is the responsibility of creating him. I try to share this responsibility as much as possible," he added.

With 16 points in ten games, Flamengo is in fifth place in the 2010 Brasileirão. Internacional, which is in fourth place and is the Rubro-Negro's opponent in Sunday's match, also has 16, but has the advantage over the team from Gávea in the number of goals scored: 18 to 12.
