But that's not what Flamengo's coach, Vanderlei Luxemburgo, thinks. He admits that the formation he wants to implement at Flamengo is primarily characterized by its attacking play, but he doesn't neglect the defensive aspect.
Two key players for the balance of this tactical scheme are the full-backs Leonardo Moura and Juan. Key in supporting the attack, they have also been improving defensively, in marking and tracking back, which, according to Luxa, will be important when the team is defending.
"The wingers will have the role of attacking, knowing that they will have to come back to reinforce the defense. I'm not going to prevent them from going back, quite the contrary, especially since they will be able to do it together. The issue is not delaying the recovery, and that can only be achieved through training," said the coach, explaining that Flamengo should use the speed of its offensive system as a weapon against Ceará.
"Ceará has a strong team, it's very hot there, and we need to know how to manage the game. We'll close ranks and counter-attack, dictating our own pace," he noted.
What also doesn't worry the Flamengo coach is the issue of the fans. After all, everyone knows that in the Northeast, Flamengo always plays at home.
