Coach highlights the quality of the red-black squad

Rogério Lourenço recalls his playing days and once again emphasizes the blend of youth and experience

Flamengo's squad, despite winning two important games against Botafogo and Atlético-GO in its return to the Brazilian Championship, continues to be a key topic in press conferences for players and coaching staff. This Tuesday afternoon (July 20.07), it was no different. Rogério Lourenço, speaking to the press, was once again asked about the group he has at his disposal. And the coach, once again, praised his players.

"Despite everything that's happened, we have a quality squad. Of course, we have some weaknesses, but if we had beaten Goiás before the World Cup, we would have finished the first half of the season in fifth place. The Brazilian Championship is very balanced, especially because the difference between the clubs is small. I'm calm and satisfied, but I can't think things are wonderful either," he said.

As a player, Rogério was part of a very young generation, but mixed with slightly more experienced players, he achieved great results wearing the Flamengo jersey. One of them was the 1992 Brasileirão title.

"If you compare it to 92, for example, that team had five players under 5. We have a good mix. In late-game situations, we had a lot of young players, but they're used to it. I think that's a good thing. It's a bit different from that time. But you have to mix it up, there's no point," the coach observed.
