Flamegno's second day of training ahead of next Sunday's derby against Vasco ended with a technical session at Ninho do Urubu. Vanderlei Luxemburgo and his coaching staff led the so-called "German Training" on Wednesday afternoon at Ninho do Urubu. The group was divided into three teams of eight players each.
In German training, the team has five minutes to score and defend. If they manage to get the ball to the middle, they gain the right to attack on the other side of the field. The main objective of this activity is to prepare the group of athletes to face strong marking, as it requires quick thinking from the players to pass the ball on a reduced field.
Motivated by the chance to play in a derby next Sunday, striker Deivid says he's very happy at Flamengo, especially under the leadership of Luxemburgo, with whom he worked at Cruzeiro and Santos. Fulfilling a dream, he says he's doubly dedicated to wearing the jersey of his beloved club.
"When you're a professional, you have to defend the colors of the club that signed you with all dedication and respect. But when you have to defend the club you support, you give in. I feel like a fan when we win; defeat hurts. It's great to be here, a dream come true," he said.
No concentration - The red-and-black coaching staff also took the opportunity to emphasize that there will be no early training camp for the derby. Taking the players to a hotel in Barra da Tijuca after Tuesday's training session was purely a precaution for the day's work, as the group would return to full-time training at Ninho do Urubu this Wednesday. After this afternoon's training session, the red-and-blacks will be released to return home and will report back on Thursday at 16:30 p.m., again at the training center in Vargem Grande.
