The training load and demands placed on the youth teams are quite different from those of professional soccer. Not only are the demands placed on the first team greater than on the youth team, but the workload is also much more intense. Therefore, the young players in the red-and-black squad, who were recently promoted, believe that the training days during this offseason will be crucial.
Already accustomed to Flamengo from an early age, the young Flamengo players know they need to work hard to establish themselves in the professional ranks, and they have good examples of this within their own squad. Guilherme Camacho is one such example. Promoted in 2009, he's been working for a year and understands the differences between working with the youth team and the first team.
"It really is different and I think these full-time days at Ninho will be very good for those who have moved up to get into the swing of things and also for all the players to stay in shape. I'm sure the work will be intense and that's important," said Camacho.
Striker Diego Maurício, meanwhile, is in his first training session with the senior team. He was promoted at the end of May, already in the midst of a marathon of matches, and didn't have much time for specific training. The center forward hopes to do so now, during the offseason.
"Having time to work is very important. I came up through the Brazilian league and was also playing for the juniors, so I didn't have much time to train. Furthermore, the pace is really different from the youth team to the professional team, and it's important to adapt to that as quickly as possible," he analyzed.
It is worth remembering that Diego, as well as Antônio and Paulo Sérgio, who are also youth players and were reintegrated into the professional squad at the beginning of this work, did not receive the same days off as the rest of the group and did physical activities in Gávea to arrive in good condition for this off-season.
