After securing their place in Série A, the Flamengo team now has its last week of work in the 2010 season. And although many people believe that the Flamengo squad is practically on vacation, they remind everyone that they need to work hard in the coming days, focusing on the weekend's match against Santos, which could take Flamengo to the 2011 Copa Sudamericana.
Flamengo's players know that now is the time to stay focused and try to get points away from home in the match against the São Paulo team. The experienced midfielder Maldonado emphasizes that the team cannot become complacent at this point, because securing a spot in the international tournament for next season would be crucial.
"It's an important game. We need to get points. We're focused on working hard this last week, giving it our all, because securing a spot in the Copa Sudamericana for next season would be crucial," he said.
The group returned to training last Tuesday (November 30.11th) and, during the week, trains in the afternoon at Ninho do Urubu. On Saturday (December 04.12th), the players train in the morning, and then travel to the coast of São Paulo. Forward Deivid believes that winning the weekend's game is crucial to ending the year on a positive note.
"We know it's an important game so we can compete in the Copa Sudamericana next year. I hope we can play a great game against Santos. At least to salvage the year with this spot. It wasn't a good year. It wasn't the year we wanted, the year we planned," he concluded.
