Last clash: Flamengo easily thrashed Caxias in the 2009 Rio Cup

Flamengo's opening opponent in the 2010 season, Duque de Caxias, didn't pose much of a challenge in last year's State Championship. The match, a Rio Cup match, took place on March 11 at Raulino de Oliveira Stadium in Volta Redonda, where coach Cuca's team defeated the Baixada Fluminense team 4-2, with goals from Juan, Josiel, and Leonardo Moura (two).
Flamengo managed to score 4-0, but with the gap on the scoreboard, they relaxed and allowed a small reaction from Caxias.
Full-back Juan opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a free kick. The second came in the first half, with Josiel finishing off a cross from Zé Roberto.
Leonardo Moura, playing as a right midfielder, capitalized on a perfect pass from Zé Roberto to extend the lead. The fourth goal came from another free kick, this time from Léo Moura. Shortly after, the full-back himself scored another stylish goal from another free kick.
In the 27th minute, Ibson fouled Alan and received a red card. With an extra player, Duque de Caxias took advantage to reduce the deficit with Edivaldo, in the 35th minute and in the 39th. Final, Flamengo 4x2. The team remained firm in the fight for the Taça Rio, a stage that they would end up conquering on the way to another three-time championship.
