Flamengo continues to modernize its football medical department. Late last week, the club received a state-of-the-art ultrasound device, which will allow for faster and more effective assessments of muscle injuries, the most common problems faced by athletes.
The device, provided in partnership with Canon, will be available at the George Helal Training Center and can be used not only by the main team, but also by the youth athletes.
"Since the machine will be located at the training center, it will no longer be necessary to schedule and transport a player to a clinic for exams. Now, they can be performed whenever necessary, greatly simplifying logistics and speeding up evaluations. But the main advantage is that the device allows for a quick and much more sophisticated diagnosis of the microstructure of muscles and tendons." Ultrasound has a unique advantage over other imaging methods: its ability to provide a more dynamic and accurate assessment,” explains Bruno Hassel, 49, a radiologist specializing in musculoskeletal radiology and sports-related injuries.
Bruno, who was hired by the club and is now part of the medical team that works daily at the training center, adds that with the new acquisition, evaluations can be performed in different ways, which will ensure greater accuracy in diagnoses.
"I can assess muscle contraction or relaxation during movement, which gives us greater opportunities to detect injuries with great precision and, consequently, indicate the best form of treatment," explains the doctor.
