For many fans, this Sunday's match isn't worth much. For the Flamengo players who will take the field, however, the duel with Friburguense will be a sort of final. And for Everton Silva, it's more than that. It will be a special match. The player reunites with the team that launched him into Brazilian football.
It was with the Nova Friburgo team that the right-back stood out before being signed by Rubro-Negro at the beginning of 2009. Now, on the other side, he is looking forward to meeting his former teammates on the field again.
"Without a doubt, it will be a special game for me. I'll see my teammates on the other side, and of course I'll be emotional before the ball rolls. But I'm very grateful to God for being on this side now, and after the referee blows the whistle, I'll do my best to help Flamengo leave the field with the victory," he explained.
The match venue is also well known to Everton. The player reveals that he's played extensively in Moça Bonita and asserts that the best way to overcome the Bangu heat is with intelligence.
"I've played in Bangu a few times, and it's really hot there. It's unusual. Let's hope it's not too sunny, but regardless, we have to do our best to win. In our position, it's important to hold our breath and not keep going back and forth all the time to avoid exhaustion," he said.

A right-back by trade, the number 19 will play as a makeshift player this Sunday. He'll play on the left flank, but he's not bothered. Everton Silva has also played as a third defender and is banking on his versatility to continue earning opportunities at Gávea.
"I'm happy with this new opportunity, which proves that Professor Andrade trusts me and, whenever possible, gives me a chance. It's important to be this versatile player. I'm a right-back, I've played as a defender, and I can also play well on the left side," he noted.
Many right-handed players thrive on the left flank. Despite the challenges, Everton believes he can be another successful player and explains the pros and cons of playing improvised.
"It makes it easier to pull inside and finish. When you take the ball to the middle, it becomes easier. It makes it a little harder to control, and when the marking is tight, because sometimes you end up a bit crooked. But, nothing that gets in the way," he concluded.
