A father with the face of Flamengo

Ronaldo Angelim talks about the experience of being a player and a father and highlights the importance of family for success

Being the father of a soccer player can't be an easy task. Betting on your son's dream and doing everything possible to help him reach a big club is a daunting task. Being a father and a soccer player isn't easy either. Defender Ronaldo Angelim can attest to that. With two sons, the number 4 and hero of Flamengo's 2009 Brazilian championship continues to dedicate himself fully to soccer, thinking of his family.

"I do everything for them. If I'm still playing today, it's for them too," he said.

The player made no secret of the fact that he would like to be with his children on this special date, but stated that he will do everything he can to return home with the victory and receive the affection of his heirs.

"Of course it's a bit annoying, but we're used to it. It's our job, and sometimes we end up having to be away from our families on dates like these. But I know that as soon as I get home, I'll receive their affection. Hopefully with a victory," he said.

Aware that a father's sacrifice to make his son a soccer player can be enormous, Angelim emphasizes the importance of family support for a successful career.

"The suffering we go through to get here is immense, and a father is essential in a journey like this. My father always supported me, gave me complete freedom to pursue my dream, and I believe that family is essential for anyone, whether they are an athlete or not," he recalled.

Son of fish...
Regarding his children's future, Angelim prefers to remain neutral. Although Riquelme and Ronald de Boer have the names of soccer stars, the defender assures that he doesn't pressure them to follow in his footsteps.

"I let them choose freely. I don't put any pressure on them. Of course, it would be nice if they played, but that's not my concern. I just try to always give them the best. To this day, I play to provide a good living for my family, and that's the most important thing," he added.
