The 1-0 result marked the end of a 44-year-old record: the Rubro-Negro's last victory over their rival on their home turf had come in 1973.

On that occasion, the classic was valid for a friendly. With a great team that had Rodrigues Neto, Zico and Paulo Cesar Caju under the baton of Zagallo, the Mais Querido also won 1-0, with a goal from Caju. Until this Saturday's result (8), São Januário was the scene of five other clashes, with two draws and three Cruzmaltina victories.

The record is even longer if we consider official matches: the last red-black victory took place in 1966. In the state championship that year, Silva and Gildo scored in the 2-0 victory.

The 2017 victory shares similarities with some of the most memorable moments in Flamengo's history—not only because of the result, but also because of the circumstances surrounding the goal. In 1944, from Vevé to Valido. In 1978, from Zico to Rondinelli. And in 2017, from Everton Ribeiro to Everton Cardoso. On all three occasions, Flamengo defeated their rivals 1-0, all thanks to headers.
