A golden opportunity for Willian Amendoim
Young promise hopes to establish himself at Flamengo with good performances in the U-23 Cup
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inA promising young player from Flamengo's youth academy is back at the club looking for a chance. Willian Amendoim, now 23, was one of the standout players of a generation that won, among other titles, three Rio de Janeiro junior championships, from 2005 to 2007. However, he never established himself in the professional ranks, and now sees the U-23 Cup as his last great opportunity to prove himself wearing the Sacred Mantle.
"I'm confident and very excited to have this new opportunity with Flamengo. I'm going to work hard to try to seize this chance. The key is to work hard, train hard, and go out on the field with a lot of motivation. We'll see what happens (laughs)," he said.
Willian das Graças Silva Júnior, a native of São Gonçalo, has played seven professional games for Flamengo: three as a starter in 2005 and one in 2006, plus two as a substitute in 2006, one in 2007, and one in 2008. This is a small number for a player who emerged with high expectations. Aware that the Red-Black Nation is expecting standout performances from him, the midfielder promises to put in a lot of effort on the field.
"I'll give it my all. I know the fans and the red-blacks saw me as a promising player and now I hope to live up to their expectations. The fans can be sure that I'll give my all to try to do well and, who knows, earn a place in the first team," said the midfielder, who also highlighted the importance of securing a victory against Palmeiras.
"It's important to get this win to get us going in the competition. We'll be focused, after the first game, which was a great result, we have to keep up the momentum to be able to win the other games as well," he concluded.
