There's no better way to talk about Flamengo and Internacional, this Saturday at 18:30 PM at Engenhão, than with the phrase from coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo after Friday's training session at the Flamengo training center, Ninho do Urubu. The match against Internacional is considered fundamental for the team from Gávea to definitively establish themselves in the championship, as it's the first of an important sequence of three games in Rio de Janeiro, which will also include Vasco and Corinthians in the next two weekends. Therefore, it's time to fully commit to fighting for better things in the championship.
Flamengo has 34 points and occupies 14th place in the table. A victory over Internacional, coupled with a stumble by Guarani against Corinthians, for example, could put the red-and-black team in the fight for a spot in the qualifying zone for the Copa Sudamericana.
"If we manage to win this game, depending on the other results, we might even be able to get into the qualifying zone for the 2011 Copa Sudamericana. It's an important moment for us, we know the difficulties, but we're going to go all out, with the support of the fans, so that we can leave the field with a positive result," said goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba.
Full-back Galhardo, who will make his debut as a starter for the professional team, sees the match not only as a great opportunity to show his skills but also to prove the strength of the Flamengo squad. After all, the team will be without five important players in the duel, due to injuries and suspensions (David, Willians, Leo Moura, Diogo and Val Baiano).
"It's a great opportunity not only for me, but for all the other players who are having this chance and for the whole group. It's time to show our strength and prove that we can fight for higher positions in the table," noted the number 42.
Without any mystery, coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo has already confirmed the team for the match, with: Marcelo Lomba, Galhardo, Welinton, Ronaldo Angelim and Juan; Correa, Maldonado, Kleberson and Renato; Diego Maurício and Deivid. The latter believes that the moment is ideal to show what he's capable of and start building momentum with the Flamengo jersey.
"It will certainly be a complicated match, where everyone will give their all, and it will be no different for me. I worked well during the week, I talked to coach Luxemburgo and I think I will already be able to show an improvement in this match," the center forward added.
