In 2009, Adriano scored 19 goals for Flamengo. Obina didn't score any, but since 2005 at Gávea, he's scored 47 goals, a record for a player in the 2000s. Although the Bahia native was loaned to Palmeiras midway through the year, amid a slump in the Flamengo fanbase, his return was greeted with great joy by the fans, who have a special affection for Obina. Coach Andrade, for his part, hasn't ruled out a potential partnership between the two forwards. Although many consider Obina merely a backup option for the Emperor, the coach doesn't see him that way. According to "Tromba," the forward will have opportunities to prove his worth, and if he does, he won't have any reason to lose his starting spot.

"It depends on them. If Obina gets a chance and starts scoring goals, who am I to say he'll be a reserve? The player is the one who will decide whether he'll be a starter or a reserve. If he starts the year well, he'll be in the starting eleven. We expect goals from him. If he starts scoring goals, how am I going to take him off? It all depends on the start of the year. They might play together, yes," explained the red-and-black manager.
