A mission that is not impossible
Juniors need to beat Botafogo 4-0 this Wednesday in Gávea to continue in the OPG Cup
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inBeating a major rival by four goals is no easy task. And Flamengo's youth team knows this. Aware of the difficulties they will face in securing a spot in the semifinals of the Octávio Pinto Guimarães Cup, the youngsters take to the field this Wednesday at 16 pm in Gávea, needing to overturn the advantage Botafogo secured by winning the first leg of the quarterfinals 5-1 in Caio Martins. Although the task may seem daunting, the team is confident they can leave the field qualified for the next stage.
The red-and-black team will be modified compared to last Sunday's match. The players from the first-team squad are still doubtful for the derby due to the senior squad having significant absences for next weekend's match against Náutico in the Brazilian Championship. Left-back Jorbison, for example, could start for coach Andrade's team. And it's not just the lineup, but also the team's attitude that should be different.
"The team is confident and aware of the difficulties. We talked a lot about our flaws, and they've learned to focus on them and will go after the win. Then, step by step, try to take advantage of the opponent. The important thing is not to despair, to seek the result, but with consistency and patience, because it's not impossible to turn this situation around," said coach Armênio Moura.
Therefore, the youth team for this Wednesday's game is Marcelo, Rafael Galhardo, Michel, Cristiano, and Anderson; Antônio, Pecka, Juninho, and João Vitor; and Dieguinho and Diego Maurício. If cleared by the senior team, Jorbison, Guilherme Camacho, and Erick Flores could be relegated to the squad. Another new addition is top scorer Diego Maurício, who returns to the team after being benched last Sunday.
