The King Vulture mask remained in the closet and the identification with Flamengo in his heart. And so, Renato Abreu spent three years away from Gávea, playing in Arab football. But this Tuesday (03.08), the supporter will be able to feel the thrill of wearing the red-and-black jersey again. After the afternoon training session, the player will be presented alongside Leandro Amaral as reinforcement for Rogério Lourenço's team that continues to compete in the Brazilian Championship. And more than that: as a recent idol wanting to write new pages in his history at Flamengo.
Missing Gávea, Renato sent a message to Flamengo fans, exclusively on the club's official website. And, to the delight of the younger Flamengo fans, he's considering re-adopting the mask that earned him the nickname "King Vulture."
"Hello Rubro Negra Nation, I miss you so much and I'm counting down the hours until I can wear this shirt again! And the mask was a huge hit, especially with the kids. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to wear it again," he said.
At 32, Renato returns to the club more experienced and ready to win more titles. With the 2007 Campeonato Carioca and the 2006 Copa do Brasil under his belt, as well as individual awards for best midfielder and best player in the Brasileirão that year, the midfielder arrives confident of filling his trophy cabinet even further.
"I can say I'm coming home because here at Flamengo I feel great and I have everyone's support. I'm very happy and confident about this return. I've been working on my fitness and of course I need to get back into match fitness now. But I don't think I'll have many difficulties and I hope to perform as soon as I get the opportunity to join the team," he added.
This will be Renato's second stint with Flamengo. The midfielder played for the Rubro-Negro from 2005 to 2007 and has made 128 appearances for the club. He scored 46 goals wearing the Sacred Mantle.
