Passionate about Flamengo since childhood, Vagner Love almost signed with his beloved club in 2008 and 2009. In 2008, CSKA wouldn't let him go. The following year, he returned to Brazil, but this time to play for Palmeiras, where he made his breakthrough into world football. However, in 2010, the "Artilheiro do Amor" finally had the opportunity to wear the Sacred Mantle. On June 11th, Vagner Love turns 26 and can now tell everyone that he fulfilled his childhood dream of playing for his club. And he didn't disappoint.
Vagner Love's season has been incredibly successful. Despite not winning the Copa Libertadores title, which was the club's greatest ambition in the first half of the year, the player quickly won over the fans with his determination and goals. And there were plenty of them. In 29 games, he found the net 23 times, in addition to providing seven assists for his teammates.
Love played alongside Adriano, forming the so-called Empire of Love, with Vinícius Pacheco, a makeshift attacker, and the young Diego Maurício. And everyone recognized the importance of playing alongside the Love Gunner. For Vinícius Pacheco, the number 9 was one of the team's standouts this season.
"Vagner is a great player. He's a striker who, while playing on the wings, also scores a lot of goals. It's great to play alongside him. We've had a few opportunities to play together, and I'm happy about that. I hope he stays at the club," said Pacheco.
Although he didn't win any titles with the club, Love won two individual awards in the first half of the year: he was the top scorer in the Campeonato Carioca, with 15 goals, and also the Craque da Galera, an award given to the player chosen as the best player in the competition in a popular vote.
