The city of Volta Redonda seems to be bringing good fortune to striker Val Baiano. After scoring his first goal for Flamengo against Atlético-GO at the Raulino de Oliveira stadium, this Sunday (November 07.11th) he will face another Atlético, Atlético Paranaense, at the Estádio da Cidadania. On Saturday (November 06.11th), in the last training session before the match, he was selected as a starter by Vanderlei Luxemburgo and is expected to start the game.
Happy, he says he feels even more confident for this match after already having broken his scoring drought wearing the Sacred Mantle. The number 9 says he is working harder and harder to continue helping the team from Gávea.
"The coach chose me again, and I hope to come in and deliver. It was here that I scored my first goal in a Flamengo shirt. I'll go in more relaxed, more confident, without that pressure of not having scored goals. The team has been improving, playing good games. I had a problem with my calf, it wasn't a very serious injury and I only missed two games. I'll try to have a good game so that we can finish the championship well and qualify for the Copa Sudamericana. I was working to do well in these last five games to come back more confident next year," said the player, who now hopes to score twice: once at each goal.
"There's always that confidence. Going back to the place where you scored your first goal brings back good memories. I remember Diego Maurício starting the play on the right with Marquinhos, who, aware of the situation, saw me coming in at the far post. I jumped behind the defenders and scored a beautiful header. A goal that will be unforgettable. I hope I can score at both ends this time (laughs)," he remarked.
The striker also praised his attacking partner, Deivid, and explained how the conversation about the duo's positioning went.
"Deivid is a team player, a good guy, a good person. He's not vain. He stayed on the bench and never complained. I told him not to go out too much on the wings, because we have the quality of Léo Moura and Juan on those flanks. I asked him to get closer, so we could try one-twos and involve Atlético's defense. But I don't see any difficulties, I've played with him a couple of times, he's intelligent. The defense will be worried about both of them," he concluded.
