There were many anxious moments before finally scoring his first goal in a Flamengo shirt. Criticism echoed from all sides, but Val Baiano remained quiet, silent, and working hard to break the spell. And it was in Vanderlei Luxemburgo's debut, who brought him on midway through the second half against Atlético-GO, this Thursday (October 07.10th), that the striker found the back of the net.
Visibly emotional, Val Baiano thanked his teammates, friends, and family, and of course, his new commander, who believed in his potential.
"I would like to thank Professor Luxemburgo here for the opportunity. He said in the locker room that he was a winner and that we were too. I think the team went into the game with that attitude today. A winning attitude, really. I also want to thank my friends, my family, and my teammates. They always said I would get through this and believed in me," he stated, unable to describe the relief he felt when scoring his first goal in a Flamengo shirt.
"I don't even know how much weight I've lifted off my shoulders. I was in debt, yes, and I knew it. I owed it to the fans and to myself. I know the fans' demands are very high, but mine are too. I'm a die-hard Flamengo fan and I've never hidden that. The ball wasn't reaching me, but everyone was trying. I didn't let the criticism get me down and I took the constructive criticism to heart," Val concluded.
