Val Baiano: "Goals will come naturally"

Striker believes he can perform better with a series of games as a starter for Flamengo

Exactly three months after his last game for Monterrey, Mexico, on May 1, Val Baiano made his Flamengo starting debut in last Sunday's (August 01.08) derby against Vasco, at Maracanã. In good physical condition, but still needing to acquire more match fitness, the striker was unable to find the net in his debut, but believes the goals will come naturally over time.

Next weekend, Flamengo faces Corinthians at Pacaembu Stadium, and the new number 9 is expected to start again. And that's what the striker wants most: a run of games to regain his best form and prove to the Red-Black Nation that he can bring them much joy.

"I haven't played in three months, so I know I still have a lot to improve. I believe the goals will come naturally. I've been working hard and I know that with a series of opportunities I can help Flamengo. I can only gain rhythm by playing, but I'm calm and ready to do my best," he said.

The striker is expected to form a partnership again with Colombian Cristian Borja, who has received much praise from everyone at Flamengo since arriving at Gávea.

"He's also a box-to-box player, but he moves around a lot, he's got a lot of desire, and I believe we can form a very good duo. We're still getting along and hopefully in this second game together we can score goals so Flamengo can return from São Paulo with the three points," analyzed Val Baiano, who also celebrated the signing of Leandro Amaral.

"Any great player is always welcome. Leandro is a goalscorer, experienced, of great quality and has a lot to add to our squad," he concluded.
