Porto Alegre (RS) - Wearing the Flamengo jersey in a derby at Maracanã is an unforgettable experience for any player. That's what Val Baiano hopes to feel next Sunday, when he plays his first game for Flamengo at the World's Biggest Stadium. Shortly after his debut against Internacional this Sunday (July 25.07), where Flamengo lost 1-0, the striker has already turned the page and is focusing on the duel against rival Vasco.

Still improving his match fitness, having played only a few games at the beginning of the year while still playing for Monterrey in Mexico, the player believes that working during the week will be crucial. Since there won't be a midweek game, Val will have even more time to hone his form and perform well in the derby.

"We have to try to work well this week. We know it will be a tough game against Vasco. We need to improve to get the win. That's how the Brazilian Championship is. We knew we could have left Porto Alegre with a better result, but unfortunately, we didn't," he said.

Physically, the player claims to be in good shape. Therefore, all that's left is to work on his technical skills to improve and get back to scoring goals, as he did for Grêmio Barueri in 2009.

"I haven't played for a long time, practically over two months. But with the games, I'm gaining rhythm and confidence. Physically, I'm at ease. Now, I need to work more on the technical side to gain more and more confidence and be able to score goals," he concluded.
