Flamengo's first offensive signing in the second half of 2010, center forward Val Baiano is eager to wear the Sacred Mantle in an official match. Having not played since May 7th, the second-highest scorer in the last Brasileirão, with 18 goals, will only be able to play for the Red-Blacks on August 8th, having signed from a club abroad. Until then, he promises to be dedicated to starting his career at Gávea in style.
"I haven't trained with the ball in a while, since my last game was on May 7th, so I'm really enjoying these first few days. And since I'll only be able to play for Flamengo on August 8th, until then, I'll be dedicating myself a lot to be 100%. I want to make a good debut against Corinthians," he said.
If training sessions serve as a basis for coach Rogério Lourenço to evaluate the group, he had a great impression of Val Baiano on Friday afternoon (09.07). The number 11 scored a great goal, chipping the ball over the goal, and drew applause from his teammates and even his opponents during the training session.
"I managed to score this beautiful goal in training and I'm going to work even harder to do the same in games. I'm improving both physically and technically, and as I said when I arrived, if I worked hard before, I'll work ten times harder here, because I know how much the fans demand. I know I need to give my all to please them," explained the player, who emphasized the unity of the red-and-black group.
"It's a really good group and a great environment to work in. Everyone is always happy, always joking, and I think God put me in the right place at the right time. I hope everything works out and we achieve many successes on the field. That's our goal," he noted.
A player with a strong presence in the box, Val Baiano promises to try to score goals by any means necessary and guarantees that, if technique doesn't work, no one can beat him through will. After all, playing for Flamengo is the fulfillment of a childhood dream for the striker.
"The fans can be sure that, on the day when a more technical play is missing, one thing will not be lacking: delivery. I will always do my best because I am fulfilling a dream by being here. I am working two shifts every day to be able to play my best football," he concluded.
