On Monday, Flamengo's board revealed its interest in signing Argentine Maximiliano Biancucchi from Sportivo Luqueño, the Paraguayan Apertura Tournament champion. Cerro Porteño coach Valdir Espinosa was full of praise for the striker, who coincidentally is the cousin of Lionel Messi, the Barcelona and Argentine national team star. According to the coach, the player was the tournament's standout performer and was instrumental in his team, with little tradition in Paraguayan football, winning the national title.
"He was the tournament's standout performer. He was the game-changer in playmaking and positioning. He was the key to Sportivo Luqueño's victory," the coach told Rádio Bandeirantes.
According to Espinosa, Biancucchi would be a starter for any major Brazilian team. While calling the player "abusive," the coach believes the striker's characteristics perfectly fit Flamengo's playing style.
"I think he has the characteristics needed to play for Flamengo. He's a feisty player, he goes after the opponent, he's objective, skillful, and always goes for the goal. That's the quality needed to play for Flamengo," he concluded.
