While the midfield was considered lacking last season, in 2011 coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo will have several options for creating plays. In addition to the newly arrived stars Ronaldinho and Thiago Neves, the experienced Renato, and the Argentinian Bottinelli, Luxa has at his disposal the young Vander, who came from Bahia and was a starter in the friendlies played in Londrina.

For Flamengo's debut in the Campeonato Carioca, Vander is expected to start, as Thiago and Ronaldo are still working on their physical conditioning, while Bottinelli has paperwork to resolve. Happy with the opportunities he's been given, the midfielder hopes to help Flamengo this season.

"It's important to have the opportunities that the coach has been giving me. Even with the arrival of several quality players for the position, I will try to give my all to help the team," he said.

The midfielder also believes he can improve significantly throughout the year by playing alongside names like Ronaldinho, Thiago Neves, and Renato. For him, they are all role models to follow.

"Spending time with them teaches us a lot. Ronaldinho, Thiago Neves, Renato... They are all great, experienced players, and I will certainly try to learn as much as possible from them to perform even better," he added.

Flamengo will make its debut in the Campeonato Carioca against Volta Redonda, on Wednesday (January 19.01th), at Engenhão.
