Coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo left Vila Belmiro this Sunday (December 05.12th) partly satisfied with what he saw his team show on the field. Of course, in the second half, neither he nor anyone else could see much due to the heavy rain that fell in the city of Santos, but the coach believes that the players who were given the opportunity to start had a good performance, especially the youngsters Negueba and Fernando.
For Luxa, the heavy pitch ended up significantly influencing the final result of the match. According to him, the rain made a more detailed analysis of the team's performance difficult. Now, for the coach, all that remains is to wait for the Copa Sudamericana final between Goiás and Independiente to see if Flamengo will compete in the competition next year.
"The game ended up being played on a very heavy pitch because of the rain, so it wasn't possible to properly assess the situation, especially in the second half. But I think that, as far as possible, the team did well. They fought, went after the result, and now we just have to wait and see if we'll be competing in the Copa Sudamericana," he explained.
However, some positive points were very clear to Vanderlei Luxemburgo: the good performances of Guilherme Negueba and Fernando. The young 18-year-old striker went inside the defenders, dribbled, ran and had clear chances to score. The 23-year-old midfielder, whose contract was renewed at the end of last week, defended well, committed few fouls and added quality to the team's build-up play.
"Negueba played as I asked, further forward, and he did very well: he created chances, dribbled, took on the defenders... Fernando also did very well marking back there, without committing fouls and providing quality in his passes," he added.
The Flamengo delegation returns to Rio de Janeiro this Sunday (December 05.12th) and the players will have time off until January 3rd, when they will report back to begin pre-season training for 2011.
