Signed in the last transfer window, goalkeeper Vinícius has yet to play a match for Flamengo's first team. However, last Sunday (September 19.09), he took the field to defend the Rubro-Negro's under-23 team in the Gávea team's debut in the Brazilian Championship. And if the saying goes that first impressions are lasting, the goalkeeper showed he is ready to earn chances in the first team when necessary.
In the first half of the match against Fluminense, played at Los Larios Stadium in Xerém, Vinícius made a great save from a penalty taken by Tricolor attacking midfielder Tartá, which was crucial to the result. Furthermore, the player had a very good performance and kept a clean sheet in his first game for Flamengo, a feat he highlighted in an interview with Flamengo's official website.
"It's great for a goalkeeper to debut without conceding a goal. As I said before, a derby is important regardless of the category. It's always a great opportunity to prove your talent, and I think I did well. It was a great debut, and I'm happy to have helped the team win," he said.
Although pleased with the first result, Vinícius emphasizes that there's no reason to celebrate until the competition is over. He wants to maintain his momentum and continue conceding as few goals as possible to help Flamengo win the championship.
"Our goal is the title, so we can't think we've achieved anything yet. It was just the first game, the team still has a lot of room for improvement, and we'll keep working. Now we need to keep going so we can get results in the championship and also show that we can be used in the first team when they need us," he added.
