Flamengo returned home in 2018 with a victory. Paulo César Carpegiani fielded a few changes for this second leg of the Guanabara Cup. Rodinei, Vinícius Júnior, Lincoln, and Renê all joined the team and started the match. The result was Flamengo dominating the game and the action, only being threatened by Cabofriense in the 42th minute of the second half, when Gabriel Batista finally found himself in goal. In the first half, Flamengo had 68% possession, demonstrating their superiority.

The opening forty-five minutes were uneventful. Lacking the speed of their opening match against Volta Redonda, Flamengo moved the ball more slowly and studied their opponents. Their first real threat came only in the 21st minute, with a long-range shot from Lincoln that goalkeeper George saved. Cabofriense also posed no threat, attempting counterattacks, but to no avail.

After so much ball possession, Flamengo finally found the net in the 33rd minute. Rodinei made a beautiful run down the right and crossed perfectly for Vinícius Jr. to score and find the back of the net for Ilha do Urubu for the first time this year.

The goal livened up the match, and the Red-Blacks increasingly controlled the action on the field. But the second goal failed to come, and the team went into the locker room with a narrow advantage.

After the second half, the match continued at the same pace. Flamengo completely dominated the game, receiving little threat. In the ninth minute, a great counterattack opportunity arose. Vinícius Júnior found Lincoln on the left, who quickly ran down the field but chose to cross rather than shoot, allowing the opposing defense to gather and prevent the goal. Two minutes later, Jonas fired a shot from outside the box, which George made a fine save.

Carpegiani made a change, bringing in Jajá, Wendel, and Pepê for Jonas, Vinícius Júnior, and Lincoln. The game remained unchanged, and Flamengo continued to dominate. Rodinei was replaced by Klebinho.

In the 42nd minute, Cabofriense had its best chance to equalize. Manga took a shot, but Gabriel saved it, but he dropped the ball. João Carlos got the rebound, but Gabriel was once again in the way to prevent the goal. And so the match continued until the end, when Flamengo secured another victory of the season.
