On social media, many fans greeted Vinicius Pacheco's fine performance against Fluminense with some suspicion. That Sunday, the midfielder replaced Serbian Dejan Petkovic when Flamengo was losing the derby 3-1. And alongside Willians, the homegrown player helped change the game, with three decisive assists that led to goals by Adriano (two) and Kleberson (one).
Even with Petkovic suspended, ruling him out of the matches against Olaria and Boavista, Vinicius Pacheco didn't relax. With quick, accurate passes, he was the standout player in the victory over Boavista this Sunday at Raulino de Oliveira Stadium. He delivered the balls for Bruno Mezenga in the 41st minute of the first half and Kléberson in the 15th minute of the second. The only thing missing was a goal, which could have come in the first half, thanks to a clever one-two with Mezenga.
Immediately after the game, in a press conference, Vinicius Pacheco said he believes he's living up to the responsibility of replacing a fan favorite. "I think so. Thank God, I've been getting opportunities and managing to live up to the expectations," he commented.
More experienced after playing for Paraná Clube and Figueirense in the south of the country, Pacheco confirmed that Andrade's guidance during the timeout was very helpful. "From outside the field, he can see better than we can. We were able to make plays down the flank and score goals," he added.
