The opinion of Flamengo fans is unanimous. The break in the Brazilian Championship due to the World Cup in South Africa couldn't have come at a better time for Flamengo. After a grueling first half of the year, the players are having the opportunity to rest and will be able to have a pre-season training period in preparation for the second half of the year.
For midfielder Vinícius Pacheco, these days will be crucial for the remainder of 2010. The player believes that the rest and increased time with family will be a great boost for the team to return in top form.
"I took the opportunity to spend time with my wife and also visit some family members. This break is important for us to rest. We've had a difficult first half of the year, with many games, in the Libertadores Cup, the State Championship, this start of the Brazilian Championship... It's exhausting and it's always good to have some time to recharge our batteries," he said.
Pacheco was not part of the Brazilian championship-winning team in 2009 and, therefore, dreams of winning the competition again this year. He has faith in the Flamengo squad which, with some reinforcements, according to him, can go far.
"We want to come back fighting for the top positions in the table. Our goal is to fight for the Brazilian championship title for the second time. We know the team needs reinforcements and the management is making moves, just like all the clubs. I'm sure whoever comes will contribute and help the group," he said.
While waiting for the team to return to training, Vinícius will take the opportunity to enjoy the World Cup. Cheering on his club teammates Fierro and Kleberson, and the Brazilian national team, the number 22 is betting on Brazil winning their sixth title.
"I'll be following the World Cup and cheering for Brazil. We have training sessions starting on the 15th, and I don't know if I'll be able to watch all the games. I hope the players who are there represent our country well and come back with the sixth title," he added.
