Victory against Guarani does not ease the red-blacks' spirits

Players know they also need points in the matches against Cruzeiro and Santos

Flamengo and its fans celebrated their victory against Guarani last weekend. However, everyone knows the result wasn't enough to ensure the Flamengos' peace of mind. The team continues to seek more important points to continue fighting for a spot in the next edition of the Copa Sudamericana.

Chilean midfielder Maldonado believes it's too late to talk about 2011. He needs to focus on the matches against Cruzeiro and Santos, earn more points, and secure a good position in the standings at the end of the competition.

"It's a relief, but we can't think about next year yet. We have two tough games to play and earn points. Nothing is over yet. That's why we need to work hard to get to Sunday's game in the best shape possible," analyzed the player, who believes in the strength of the group to secure victories.

"That's what's good. It depends on the strength of the group, knowing what we have to play in this game. We need to be calm going into it, but the squad is strong, the coach is very competent and we're going to look for those results," he noted.

Despite also knowing the importance of the clash with Santos, in the last round, Maldonado asks that the team be fully focused on the match against Cruzeiro, Sunday (28.11), in Volta Redonda.

"First comes Cruzeiro. Our focus is on this game, regardless of Cruzeiro's situation. It's all up to us, and that's good. We've created very high expectations," he added.
