Vizeu celebrates 5-0 win over Palestino: "It cleanses the soul"
In a press conference alongside Vinicius Jr., the center forward celebrates the opportunities received and plans the match against Atlético-MG
By Matheus Oliveira - inFelipe Vizeu, who scored the opening goal in the 5-0 victory for the red-and-black team against Palestino, gave a press conference after the players who started the match completed a recovery session. In the Victorino Chermont Press Room at Ninho do Urubu, the center forward celebrated the impressive result against the Chilean team.
The Red-Blacks were looking to return to winning ways and achieved it with flying colors. Adding the thrashing they delivered at Ilha do Urubu to the 5-2 win from the first leg, they made it a resounding 10-2 on aggregate. Vizeu celebrated the Mais Querido's emphatic advancement in the Copa Sudamericana.
"It cleanses the soul. We needed to win, we were coming off negative results. We know that, given Flamengo's greatness, winning is very important. The legacy we carry here at the club since the youth academy is this: victories and titles. Thank God yesterday, with this victory, we have more peace of mind to move forward," analyzed the center forward.
In yesterday's match, his continental debut, Vizeu deflected a shot from Willian Arão to pave the way for victory. Taking advantage of the chances he received, the 20-year-old emphasizes his patience and hard work to perform his role with quality upon returning to the starting eleven.
"I've always dedicated myself a lot. I knew the opportunity would come around eventually, and it was no different. In football, we know these things happen," he said. "I prepared myself. The club always provided me with a very good structure so I wouldn't lose focus and could maintain my concentration in training, so that when that opportunity came, I could make the most of it," he added, also recalling the lessons learned from more experienced teammates, such as number 9 Guerrero. "Paolo is a guy I've always learned from. It's a source of great happiness to have him here and to be part of this squad alongside a center forward like him," he praised.
The goal scored by the Boy from the Nest also had a tribute tone. Going through a period of sadness after the passing of his great-grandmother, Vizeu dedicated his goal to her. "Yesterday, with the loss of my great-grandmother, it was a bit difficult, but we have to carry on with life. We draw strength from the bottom of our hearts," he lamented, thanking the squad for their words in the locker room at the end of the match. "The group helped me a lot. They hugged me and gave me a lot of strength. Now I have to keep going. I know she's in a great place. I dedicate yesterday's goal to her," he concluded.
As for the rest of the season, the young striker preaches calm. "Last year I had a very good run. I'm almost reaching 50 games for Flamengo. It's a great joy at 20 years old to be able to reach this milestone at a club as great as Flamengo. I'm very calm, but aware of the responsibility, which is huge. I have to stay focused on my day-to-day work, as we know there will be very difficult games. With great humility and dedication, I will continue working to find the net," he analyzed.
Finally, Vizeu previewed the clash against Atlético-MG in the Brazilian Championship, which will take place this Sunday (13). "We need to keep our heads on straight, because we're not coming off good results in the Brasileirão. If we maintain our calm, our tranquility, with the group closed as it was in this last game, we'll be able to come away with this victory. Let's see what the coach has to say for the rest of this week and focus as much as possible. We know that there are also many decisive players there, with great potential, so we need to remain humble to return to winning in the Brazilian Championship," he concluded.
This Friday (11), the team led by interim coach Jayme de Almeida will continue preparing for the duel against the Minas Gerais team. The match will be played at the Independência stadium, with the ball rolling from 16 pm.
