Welinton eager for a new chance as a starter

Defender could start against Ceará, Saturday, at Maracanã

Defender Welinton still doesn't know if he will start next Saturday (14.08), against Ceará, but he is hoping to be used by coach Rogério Lourenço for the match. With Jean suspended and still unsure if David will be regularized in time with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), there is a good chance that the young defender will start playing this weekend.

"I'm very happy. Thank God I might have another opportunity this weekend, if coach Rogério chooses me to start, and the expectations couldn't be higher. I've had a few chances to show my football this year and I hope to get another one against Ceará. If I get one, I'll do my best to get us the win," said Welinton.

A product of the youth ranks, the goalkeeper could reunite with his friend and former teammate Erick Flores, who is on loan from Flamengo to Ceará, but the player, due to contractual reasons, will not be able to play this weekend.

"Unfortunately, Erick won't be able to play. It would be a very interesting duel. But Diego will be on the other side. He's a great goalkeeper, who made friends with everyone and has a history here at Flamengo, but I hope we beat him," noted the defender, who believes that work is the main solution for the Rubro-Negro to end their four-match winless streak in the Brasileirão.

"The solution to end this bad streak is work. The balls haven't been going in, but eventually they will. In the meantime, we have to keep trying and keep working hard because we'll reap the rewards soon," he added.
