Welinton celebrates another game without conceding a goal

Defender believes he showed his worth to coach Rogério Lourenço in the match against Ceará

Defender Welinton played his eighth game for Flamengo in the 2010 season against Ceará this Saturday (14/08). With him on the field, the Rubro-Negro conceded only four goals, won six matches, drew one and lost another. Positive numbers both individually and for the group.

After the match, the defender celebrated the fact that Flamengo had returned to winning ways after four games without a win in the Brasileirão, especially with a good performance from the defense, which once again, did not concede any goals.

"I'm very happy with this new opportunity, and of course it's always important for us defenders not to concede goals. But the important thing is the dedication of the entire team. For me, it's very good. I believe I did my job well, and what's more, the team got the victory, which hadn't been achieved in four games and which was crucial for us," he said.

Coach Rogério Lourenço anticipates a strong battle for the position alongside Ronaldo Angelim in the red-and-black defense. With Jean returning from suspension, David back in the game, and Welinton performing well, the battle for a spot will give the coach a headache.

"During the competition, there may be the possibility of using three defenders, but that depends on each match. It's a real headache for the coach. Welinton performed very well, Angelim, Jean, and David, obviously, were hired based on the merits they achieved in the first half of the year, and that's a good problem for me," he added.
