Willians looking forward to his first classic
The midfielder, formerly of Santo André, will play his first major derby in the red and black shirt on Sunday.
By Flamengo Archive - inOne of Flamengo's standout players in this Campeonato Carioca, midfielder Willians is eagerly awaiting his first derby for Flamengo on Sunday against Vasco at the Maracanã stadium. According to the number 8, he'll need plenty of willpower and determination to secure another victory in the Taça Rio.
"A derby is always a great experience. I've heard a lot about the rivalry with Vasco. I know it's a game everyone is eagerly awaiting. We're coming off a poor result, and a positive result in the derby would be a big help. We know it will be very difficult, but we have to put our hearts into it and honor the Flamengo jersey in this match. I'm really looking forward to getting on the field."
The player praised the Vasco team and asked for attention to midfielders Carlos Alberto and Jéferson.
"We know Vasco hasn't beaten Flamengo in almost two years, but every game is different. New players have arrived, and they have a very good team. They're gelling, and the 4-1 victory over Botafogo is proof of that. Carlos Alberto and Jéferson are great players, and we have to be careful. Elton is also a dangerous striker and needs to be watched closely."
