Willians wants his team to press hard at Engenhão.
The midfielder believes that attention to the defensive system is the first step towards victory this Wednesday.
By From the official website team - inFlamengo's midfielder, Willians, is yet another proponent of the philosophy that the best offense in football today is a good defense. Currently the top ball-winner in Brazilian football, the number eight knows well the importance of strong marking to initiate counter-attacks and surprise the opponent, and that's what he wants to see Flamengo do this Wednesday against Corinthians.
The midfielder recalls the matches valid for the knockout phase of this year's Copa Libertadores, when Flamengo eliminated the São Paulo team, to give the recipe for how to enter the field later today.
"The Corinthians team is strong, they're coming to try and win, but we know we can't lose. It's going to be a very competitive game, just like it was in the Libertadores. We have to be careful not to come here and risk losing the game. We have to play a strong marking game like we did there. We didn't lose to Corinthians here because of that. If we impose our rhythm, they won't be able to keep up. We have to be totally focused, avoid conceding goals, so we can score and come away with the victory," he explained.
A versatile player who has been playing under Vanderlei Luxemburgo both in a more defensive role and on the right wing, Willians says he is prepared to help in any position.
"I feel comfortable both further back and on the right. I've played in both positions and I think I'm doing well what coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo is asking of me. Whenever he needs me, I'll do my best to help Flamengo, which is the most important thing," he concluded.
