Flamengo's vice-president of football, Alexandre Wrobel, and the director of the department, Rodrigo Caetano, spoke to the press regarding the departure of coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo from the Rubro-Negro this Tuesday (May 26.05). The press conference took place right after the activities led by Jayme de Almeida and the director also spoke about reinforcements and the arrival of the new coach.

- I wanted to thank Luxemburgo for the work he did. A great Flamengo supporter. Certain circumstances, which I won't disclose, led us to make this decision. He expressed his opinion. We hired him, so, to some extent, you should understand, right? But I respect it.

- The evaluation of the work is done daily. We meet and talk several times a day, so there isn't one determining factor. Things happen day by day, wear and tear occurs, and we arrive at this decision. The team hadn't been playing well and showing what we wanted. The group is qualified to be higher up. All the professionals in the department are involved in negotiations, as is Rodrigo. What I can guarantee is that the board made this decision based on the conversations that took place during all the days Vanderlei spent with us.

- You create projects for some players. We never said we can't have a big idol, we said we have to respect our budget. We are far from a comfortable situation, but it already allows us to dream of a big name. We are actively pursuing one or two names in the market. Nothing is confirmed or denied, things are moving forward. When you're looking for a big-name player, naturally the negotiation drags on. We're looking for signings to make a difference. I want to reassure the fans because we are making good progress.

Jayme will manage the team on an interim basis tomorrow. 

- The profile of the new coach is an internal matter; we don't have a name defined yet. We are looking for a name, but we haven't reached a consensus. We are in good hands with Jayme, on an interim basis. We don't want to set a date. If we decide tomorrow or the day after, it will be announced.

- I think being aligned is good for everyone. As Rodrigo said, when he was hired he knew about the governance model. There's no problem with the coach expressing his opinions. When we went to Atibaia, we sought alignment. Nobody is obligated to think the same way, that doesn't mean they're not aligned.

- Like Wrobel, of course we regret any change. As a professional, I understand that this means my work also wasn't successful because it's not ideal for the executive. But there are situations that lead to this. During this time we've been here with Vanderlei, we've always sought improvement. This is a fight of mine, as well as Wrobel's. Now, Flamengo won't always accomplish everything at the pace we want. And going into detail about the signings: it's not just me who thinks this squad can do better, but Vanderlei himself does too. 

- I'm not going to comment on those statements. I have great respect for Vanderlei, but our difficulties stem from having a tight budget. The money is fixed, and if we can't execute it effectively, it's not due to ill will. It's the same at other clubs, and I take it in stride.

Change
- Now is not the time to rebuild the squad. Even when Vanderlei was in charge, the players we were looking for would have been approved by any coach. This won't change anything.

- This type of conversation will always remain internal. Our opinions will be expressed to those who need them. We discuss every situation internally. So the board is aware of our needs internally. Flamengo's decision is made by a group, and I, as an executive, participate. The decision isn't just mine or just the president's. Obviously, at some point I have to be aware. The model here is new, but that doesn't mean it can't be improved. Like any model under construction, it requires refinement. In each club I've been to, there was a different model. It's up to the professional to adapt to the environment and methodology.

- Whenever Vanderlei called, it was because we asked him to. We can't disregard his knowledge and relationship with us. He was always on call with us, often with me by his side.
