Zé Ricardo celebrates being five points ahead of the leader

Zé Ricardo led Flamengo to another victory in the Brazilian Championship on Monday night (25). Guerrero and Alan Patrick, from the penalty spot, scored for Rubro-Negro, who beat América-MG 2-1. For being the winning coach, Zé participated in the program "Bem, amigos!", on the SporTV channel, right after the match.
The coach celebrated the result and attributed the difficulty of the duel to the motivations of the opponent, who were under pressure at the bottom of the Brasileirão.
"We knew we'd have a tough time today. This kind of game, with a coaching change and the signing of new players, certainly served as extra motivation for América-MG to make our job harder. We had a good first half. In the second half, after the second goal, we could have scored a third, but América showed great spirit and made it difficult for us," he analyzed, before noting that the team is still hot on the heels of the Brasileirão leader.
"I'm happy with the victory. We managed to close the gap to Palmeiras to five points. Now we have the game against Coritiba to look for the victory and continue our journey," he added, referring to the match next Sunday (31), at the Couto Pereira stadium.

Zé Ricardo also praised Flamengo's squad, which recently added two key reinforcements: defender Donatti and midfielder Diego. Neither has yet to debut for the Manto Sagrado.
"We believe that to compete in the Brazilian Championship as it is and to have a good South American Championship, which starts next month, we need a strong group. The arrival of these players demonstrates this. Our day-to-day operations are very collaborative; we're creating an environment where the players feel comfortable. Paolo (Guerrero) is serving his national team, but we still have to think about suspensions due to cards and injuries; it's not easy. Everyone wants to play, and we only have 11 starting spots. But Flamengo has to come first. If Paolo and Vizeu score goals, that takes a back seat. Vanity can't be allowed to override the collective, and that's the message we're sending them. We have a very good group to work with, and the team is slowly growing," he concluded.
