Team performance
Over these three days, I tried to instill as much confidence as possible in the players. The victory belongs to them alone. I positioned them on the field comfortably, while also understanding Ponte Preta's moves. The players' resilience was immense, considering what they demonstrated in the second half.
Player characteristics
Analyzing Flamengo's squad, we have intelligent, technically sound, and strong players. These are the three pillars I believe a player needs to perform at a high level and maintain concentration throughout the match. I imagine the team's performance growing during the competition because we have quality players. I was provided with more information by the club's Performance Analysis Center (CAD), and we built the team to perform well here.
Absence of Paulo Victor
During yesterday's training session, he had to withdraw from training due to lower back pain. Because of this, we brought in a third goalkeeper, Thiago. During the night, Paulo Victor woke up in a lot of pain, and we thought he'd have a hard time playing today's match. He'll remain in the starting lineup.
Team changes
I'm getting to know and recognize some of the individual characteristics of each athlete and the group as a whole. We decided to make these changes due to Ponte Preta's playing style. Cuéllar only participated in a small portion of yesterday's training session, and we thought he might still have some issues starting a match. We didn't want to risk losing a substitution. Regarding Mancuello's absence, it was simply to increase our aggressiveness on the wings with Marcelo (Cirino) and Fernando. He'll still be very useful for us.
