Flamengo's executive director of football, Zico, gave a press conference on Monday morning (June 21.06st), after the team's training session at Ninho do Urubu, the club's training center in Vargem Grande. And, as could be expected, the main topic addressed by journalists was the possible signing of new players.

Zico took the opportunity to reassure the Flamengo fans, who are also waiting for news about who might join the team in the second half of the year. After publishing a text on his official website asking the fans not to rush things and not to trust speculation, he explained that the board is working to strengthen the squad.

"We are working calmly and there are no stalled negotiations. All are progressing and we are looking to strengthen the squad well. It's unlikely that any players currently in Brazil will come, due to the competition regulations. So, players will likely come from abroad, but we have to trust those who are already here. We have a strong squad that deserves to be valued," he stated.

Contract renewals for some players were also discussed at the press conference. Zico assured that he is in talks with the athletes and has already expressed interest in having some of them on the team for the remainder of the season.

"Nothing is set in stone yet, but we're doing our part. In the case of Maldonado, for example, we've already expressed our interest and are awaiting the resolution of the situation between him and his agent. We're working on it, and the fans can be sure of that," noted Zico, who also explained the negotiations to keep Vagner Love at Flamengo.

"When you negotiate, you have to see what's best for the clubs and for the player. We always try to do things this way. Love's situation is difficult because the Russians want the player to have the same valuation he had last year. He had good offers, mainly from German football, and when he came to Palmeiras, it was to try to return to the national team and be even more valued. So, the Russians are thinking about receiving, now, an offer like the one they had last year," he concluded.
