Zico asks Val Baiano for peace of mind

Striker reveals conversation in which CEO expressed confidence in his football

Anyone who watched Flamengo's training session last Friday (July 30.07) could see, at the end of the activity, a long conversation between the club's executive director of football, Zico, and striker Val Baiano, who is expected to make his first start for the Rubro-Negro next Sunday (August 01.08), against Vasco. In an exclusive interview with the team at Flamengo's official website, the center forward revealed the content of the chat and expressed confidence in a good performance in the Clássico dos Milhões.

Val Baiano said he received words of encouragement from the greatest idol in the history of Flamengo's football. According to him, Zico urged him to remain calm and affirmed his belief in the talent and experience of the second-highest scorer in the last Brazilian Championship to help Flamengo leave Maracanã with three more points on Sunday.

"He asked me to stay calm and said he knows that just because of one game I won't be a good signing or not. He asked me to be calm and confident in playing my football. As I'm an experienced player, he knows I won't feel the pressure of playing in a derby, and the best way for me to repay that confidence is by playing well on Sunday," he said.

A natural center forward, Val doesn't hide his desire to score in the derby. However, he warns that, regardless of whether he scores, he'll do everything he can to help his team achieve a positive result.

"The important thing is for Flamengo to win. Whether I score or not, I want to help the team come away with the three points. That's what matters most to me. The goals are a consequence of the work and commitment shown on the field," he concluded.
