With another important challenge about to begin, Flamengo's artistic gymnastics athletes continue training hard for the Brazilian Specialist Championship. The competition takes place from June 5th to 9th at Arena Carioca 3, located in the Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. In 2018, competing in the same tournament, the Flamengo gymnasts won three gold medals and two silver medals, reaching every podium.
Isabelle Retamiro secured the gold medal in the vault final with 13.800 points. Jade Barbosa also performed well on the parallel bars, taking first place (13.200). The third gold medal for the "Mais Querido" team came from Flávia Saraiva (14.300) on the balance beam, forming a red-and-black team with Jade, who finished in second place. Flavinha also secured silver with a score of 13.500 on the floor. Overall, the red-and-black team won the Brazilian team title.
"The big highlight this year is Rebeca Andrade's return to the Brazilian Championships, entering as the favorite in almost every apparatus. Flavinha and Jade, like last year, are also favorites in most events, except for vault, as they are not participating. Isabelle is once again very strong on vault, with a good chance of winning her second championship. Another very positive highlight is Lorena's return, who is now 100% physically fit after surgery. They are very excited and confident about winning medals for Flamengo in the competition," said Ângelo Sabino, Flamengo's gymnastics coach.
The Rubro-Negro women's adult team that will compete in the Brazilian Specialist Championship has already been defined: Flávia Saraiva, Jade Barbosa, Lorrane Dos Santos, Isabelle Retamiro, Lorena Antunes and Vitória Corrêa.
The artistic gymnastics teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Committee of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
