The red-and-black gymnasts enter the final stretch of preparation for the Brazilian Championship

By Helena Petry - inThe athletes from Flamengo's Senior Artistic Gymnastics team held a training session open to the press on Tuesday afternoon (12). At the Claudio Coutinho gym, at the club's headquarters, in Gávea, the gymnasts spoke about their preparation for the Brazilian Championship, which takes place between June 22 and 24, in São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo.
Flávia Saraiva, Jade Barbosa, Lorrane Oliveira, Isabelle Retamiro, Luisa Kirchmayer, Maria Júlia Marques, and Beatriz Santos entered the final stretch of preparation for the tournament, Mais Querido's main commitment of the season. However, while the rest of the team trained hard for the competition, Jade and Flávia needed some time off. This is because they both just returned from Cochabamba, Bolivia, where they competed in the South American Games for the Brazilian national team.
"We trained a little differently than the girls who didn't go. We came back and took a break, and now we're ramping up our training again to focus on the Brazilian Championship, because otherwise, our plans wouldn't have worked out. If you compete in two competitions in a row and don't rest, your performance isn't as good," said Jade.
At the South American Championships, the gymnasts shone, winning six medals for Brazil and helping the country win the team gold medal. Flavinha won the title on the balance beam and uneven bars, while Jade took silver, making it a red-and-black double on the podium. In the all-around competition, Flávia finished second and Jade third.
The Mais Querido team will embark next Tuesday (19) to compete in the Brazilian Championship.
The artistic gymnastics and swimming teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Committee of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
